Master Ranjan Fernando

Ranjan Fernando is the third generation of the Rodrigo–Fernando family to dedicate his life to music — following his great-grandfather, Professor William Rodrigo (Sri Lanka's first Army bandmaster) and his grandfather, Professor Norbert Rodrigo (the father of Sinhala Baila music). His earliest memories are inseparable from the resonance of ivory keys and the warmth of a well-maintained instrument.

His formal training took him through the classical European tradition, where he developed not only a pianist's sensitivity but a technician's precision, building on the musical tradition passed down through his family. He developed his technical mastery in the art of piano tuning, regulation, and voicing — disciplines that require equal parts science and artistry. His ability to hear the invisible — the fractional deviations in pitch, the imperceptible stiffness in a key action — became the hallmark of his reputation.

In 1986, Master Ranjan founded what would become Sri Lanka's premier piano institution. He later took on one of the rarest undertakings in his craft — hand-building a piano entirely from scratch. What began as a small, carefully curated collection of instruments grew, through four decades of trusted service, into a nationally recognised destination for pianists, schools, and families seeking instruments of genuine quality. His criteria for selecting a piano for the showroom have never changed: it must be an instrument he would be proud to have in his own home.

Today, Master Ranjan continues to personally oversee every piano that enters the centre's collection. He remains a trusted name among Sri Lanka's leading concert venues, conservatories, and professional pianists when an instrument requires expert care. For him, every tuning is a conversation with the instrument — and every piano sold is the beginning of a lifelong relationship.
