Master Ranjan Fernando founded Ranjan Fernando Piano Centre in 1986. His work spans piano tuning, repair, restoration and practical technical care, supported by decades of hands-on experience. He and his team serve piano owners across Welisara, Ragama, Colombo and other parts of Sri Lanka.
His skills were developed the practical way — at the workbench, through years of hands-on piano work rather than formal certification or manufacturer training. He personally carries out piano tuning and the specialist work within his expertise, while the team he has trained handles many day-to-day services.
He comes from a musical family whose lineage spans four generations: Professor William Rodrigo, Bandmaster of the Ceylon Light Infantry; Professor Norbert Rodrigo, a pioneer of Sinhala Baila music; Professor Gerard Rodrigo, an important figure in the family's musical heritage; and Master Ranjan himself. That family heritage is far older than the centre he founded in 1986 — read the family history. Together with his brothers and team, he also built a piano in Sri Lanka for the local market — featured in Divaina on 20 April 2004 and kept by the family as a memento.
Today, Master Ranjan continues to oversee the pianos that enter the centre, working alongside the team he has trained in tuning, repair, regulation, voicing and restoration. Pianists, schools and venues continue to call on the centre when an instrument needs expert care.
